Brody Beauchemin, Jayce Legaarden and Zach Nicolas scored power play goals in the Winkler Flyers 5-2 victory over the Steelers in Selkirk. Mike Svenson and Dalton Andrew also scored for the Flyers who received a 16-save performance from Liam Ernst.


The Pembina Valley Twisters three-game losing skid came to an end Tuesday night in Morris. Riley Goertzen had two goals and an assist as Pembina Valley defeated the St. Vital Victorias 5-2. Derek Wiebe, Alex Van Deynze and Max Collet had the other Twisters goals. Pembina Valley’s Logan Enns made 22 saves


Winnipeg Blue Bombers players met with the media Tuesday morning at IG Field for the final time this season. Running back Brady Oliveira, who is a pending free agent, said there’s a possibility he will try out with some NFL teams. The 26-year-old Winnipeg native had 2,014 all-purpose yards and was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Canadian. Oliveira joined Jon Cornish as the only Canadian born players to rush for more than 1,500 yards in a season. The Blue Bombers lost 28-24 to the Montreal Alouettes in the 110th Grey Cup this past Sunday in Hamilton.


Derrick Anderson has a 2-1 round robin record and Kara Balshaw is 1-2 at the Canadian Curling Club Championships at the Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club in Winnipeg.


Canada fell 3-2 to Jamaica Tuesday night in the CONCACAF Nations League quarterfinal at BMO Field in Toronto. The aggregate score was 4-4 with Jamaica winning the series on the away goals rule. Canada would have earned a berth in the Nations League final four and a spot in next year’s Copa America. Now the Canadians are out of the CONCACAF tournament and will have to win a play-in match in Frisco, Texas on March 23rd to make the South American championship.
