The St. Joseph Museum was a recipient of $10,000 from the Provincial Tourism Development Fund Grant for new signage in November.

The Tourism Development Fund is a program administered by Manitoba Growth, Enterprise and Trade. The program provides financial support for projects that develop new or enhance existing tourism products.

The St. Joseph museum  lost their highway 75 sign for travellers headed south due to wind damage this past summer. The museum decided that they were in need of new signage as well as an upgrade for their existing signs.

"We Felt it would be beneficial, and would hopefully bring more traffic to St. Joseph," said Museum Manager Guy Robbins.

The total cost of the project that will provide a new sign along highway 75, and in the community of St Jean built by a local contractor is estimated at $20,000r.

"The grant will supply us with %50 of the funds we need and the municipality of Montcalm along with the Parent Brothers have agreed to help with the remainder," said Robbins.

Robbins mentioned in order to qualify for the grant the project needed the support of the Pembina Valley Central Plains Tourism Association, which they got and were extremely grateful for.

"The tourism Association and the community have really stepped up to help with this project," explained Robbins.

As part of the granting rules the signs will be constructed and installed before summer of 2017, which Robbins says is for the best as that is the museums prime tourism season.
