A 17-year-old driver had his vehicle impounded and licence suspended earlier this month after attempting to engage in a street race.

On April 17, while monitoring traffic at the intersection of Main Street and Mountain Avenue, police observed the driver of a vehicle attempt to race another vehicle. Police conducted a traffic stop and issued the 17-year-old driver a $672 ticket for racing with another vehicle. Along with impounding his vehicle and suspending his license, the male was served an MPI Serious Offence Notice.

Winkler Police report a number of traffic violations including drivers not having mufflers. On April 20, police received complaints of vehicles loudly revving their engines. Upon arrival police observed a vehicle with no bumper and noted the vehicle to be very loud. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was issued a verbal warning for not having a bumper and was issued a ticket for failing to have required equipment, namely a muffler.

The next day police stopped a driver for accelerating rapidly causing the tires to squeal loudly. Police issued the driver of the vehicle a verbal warning for squealing the tires and issued the registered owner of the vehicle a ticket for failing to have required equipment, namely a muffler.

Police also handed out a pair of $672 tickets to two drivers after reports of vehicles passing stopped school busses. One incident took place on April 12, and another on April 24.
