Fourteen youth honoured for their accomplishments at the Manitoba Aboriginal Youth Achievement Awards last week included two young women from the Roseau River Anishinabe First Nation.

Seventeen year old Erin Egachie, a high school student in Winnipeg, received the Community Volunteer Award for work she has done with the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs.

Anna Nelson is a 23 year old linguistics student at the University of Manitoba with a 4.25 GPA.

She received the Academic Senior Award.

The award ceremony, held at the Winnipeg Convention Centre, was founded in 1994 to counter negative perceptions of the province's aboriginal youth.
