The Winkler Flyers are set to make their first appearance in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League finals since 2002, poised to clash with the Steinbach Pistons in pursuit of their first MJHL championship since 1998. Tyler Hildebrand, representing the Winkler Flyers organization, shared insights on their journey during a recent appearance on the morning show.

"It's not just this year, it's something that we've been working towards for the last three years and it was really cool to see, but the work ain't done yet," Hildebrand emphasized.

Securing the 2nd spot overall in the MJHL regular season, the Flyers advanced through the playoffs by defeating the Portage Terriers with a 4-2 series win, followed by a 4-2 series victory against the Virden Oil Capitals. Reflecting on the rivalry between Winkler and Steinbach, Hildebrand remarked,

"The Pistons and us have battled and battled and battled. I mean, we were the two top teams in the league this year. We had some really good games with the Pistons and we had some that were maybe a little bit more forgettable. But you can tell that these two teams deserve to be in the final and they're the right two teams to battle it out for the Turnbull Cup."

The Winkler Flyers face the defending champion Steinbach Pistons Sunday (7 p.m.) at the Centennial Arena in game two of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s best-of-seven final. The Flyers won the series opener 2-1 Friday night in Niverville, and extended their road winning streak to five games.
