Construction of the expanded GNS East Reservoir south of Altona is progressing well, according to Municipality of Rhineland Reeve Don Wiebe.

"Currently, most of the concrete work is done and they will be pouring the cover slab very shortly," he said. "The connections to the existing pumps is well underway, and we're pleased to hear that there should not be any need for more boil water advisories."

According to Wiebe, work on the 2,000 cubic meter underground reservoir is scheduled for completion by the end of October.

Meantime, crews continue with upgrades to a pair of sewer lift stations in Plum Coulee.

"That project is underway," said Wiebe, "but we were advised that the stand-by (generators) might not be available in time." He noted this development has the potential to delay the project. "So, hopefully the contractor will be able to secure the generators so this delay can be avoided."

The Municipality is splitting the cost of the upgrades to the facilities, located on River Avenue and Arena Road, with Manitoba Water Services Board.
