Dollars for Diamonds wraps for the Altona Angels, time to get shovels in the ground
The Altona Angels softball association has officially wrapped up their 2025 Dollars for Diamonds 50/50 campaign and it is now time to put that money raised to work! A successful campaign Derek Sawatzky is the president of Altona Angels Minor Softball and chalks up the 2025 Dollars for Diamonds Campaign to a huge success, "Yeah, I think it's been a huge success. I know that last year we raised more money than we did this year. However, anytime that we're engaging the community in the work that we're doing is success and so. This year, the total number of dollars that came in was $7690.00 and a lot of that, around 2500 of that came in this past weekend at the at the Sunflower Festival, which has been fantastic." How the money is being put to work Derek touched on how they are utilizing the money, "The next steps for us as an organization is we're going to be taking this money and the other money that we've fundraised and we're going to begin the next project which is to trim out The West Park northeast diamond with clay. It has some existing clay but we're going to be excavating and adding to that in different areas. Doing that is a substantial project, so I think that's what that's our goal by the end of this Summer to make sure that. Yeah, we've got something that is going to be ready to go for the spring season. In in the next few weeks here, we're going to be excavating out that diamond, our group will be marking out that diamond probably this week and making sure that it's ready to go for, for the businesses to actually do the work. We would like that all the clay to be down settling before the school year begins so that we're also not interrupting the work that happens there." More than just the 50/50 Derek also mentioned the business community that contributed to the campaign, "We're ready to call that the Dollars for Diamonds Campaign is completed. We feel really overwhelmed with the success that we've seen including the 50/50's, the total number of dollars sits somewhere around $102,000 that the fifty 50s and by and large, the business community has brought into us. We're going to be working to obviously do the diamond upgrades and do some equipment upgrades, including jerseys and things like that, that we promised, yeah. " The 50\50 Winners!
