Recent rapid-fire drug seizures result of ‘dedication’: Morden Sergeant
Within the past month, the efforts of the Morden Police (with support from the Regional Support Tactical Team) have resulted in removing a significant amount of illegal drugs from the community. The seizures include 32.7 grams of methamphetamine, 15.3 grams of cocaine, and drug paraphernalia taken off the streets in three incidents. Four subjects have been charged as a result of the seizures. The result of knowing the community Sergeant Chris Flook of the Morden Police Service said that the incidents took place within the span of three weeks. Although the cases were unrelated to one another, Sergeant Flook said there’s one thing they have in common. “[They were] just a result of Morden Police members being out in the street and being observant and knowing the community,” he said. Help from the Regional Support Tactical Team The first incident, which took place on October 1, involved the Regional Support Tactical Team and members of the Morden Police Service, who conducted a search warrant at a local hotel. Officers found “numerous items related to drug trafficking,” and 14.5 grams of cocaine in a room, according to Morden Police Service’s media release. One individual was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine and released on an undertaking with conditions after the discovery. ‘It’s unfortunately too much of a reality’ For Sergeant Flook, the presence of illegal drugs in the community is a matter of which the Morden Police Service is always cognizant. There's still a decent amount of drugs coming into our community, so we're hoping we can help stem some of that.” Concerted efforts Although the flow of illegal drugs is an ongoing issue the community faces, the Morden Police and the Regional Support Tactical Team continue to work to keep the area safe. “All the drug investigators in the tactical team and all the members kind of have their own piece of these investigations, and they all do their part really well, and they all work together really well,” said Sergeant Flook. "It shows a lot of dedication by them. They sacrifice a lot of time ... to see these [investigations] through to the end."
