Altona's 'Eco-Stu' pedaling 750km to fight kids' cancer
An Altona man needs our help in his quest to help fight kids' cancer. Stu Irvine, more commonly known as Eco Stu, is putting pedal to pavement this month and is participating in the Great Cycle Challenge. According to the web site, the Great Cycle Challenge has become one of the biggest cycling events across Canada. People of all ages, abilities and from every province across the country set themselves a personal riding goal and challenge themselves to pedal throughout August to fight kids’ cancer. "Last year, I raised $3,600 (and) this year I pledged to raise $5,000. Donations are a little on the lack side," said Irvine, who's main from of transportation is bicycling year-round. He has committed cycling 750 kms this month. As of interview time, he'd logged about 450 kms and raised just over $790. "I'm halfway there and we're just halfway into the month so, hopefully, I'll surpass my 750 kms but time will tell." One night last week, he got on his bike at 2 a.m. and did a lap or two around town. Unable to give much of his own money to the cause, Irvine said this is one way to help give back. If you're interested in helping Irvine reach his goal by the end of the month, you can learn more about the cause and donate here.
