The Esso Cup Most Valuable Player has had quite the busy schedule since competing at the 2017 Esso Cup National Female Midget Hockey Championship in Morden back in April. Sanford's Halle Oswald played seven games in seven days at the Esso Cup, then the following weekend took part in the Hockey Canada U-18 strength and conditioning camp in Hamilton and just this past weekend hit the ice again as she tries to earn a spot with on the Hockey Manitoba U-18 team.

The 17-year-old goaltender had a terrific year and helped her Pembina Valley Hawks capture the Manitoba Female "AAA" Midget Hockey League championship, which earned her an invite to the Hockey Canada U-18 strength and conditioning camp in Hamilton.

"It was a great experience. I learned a lot and I'll take all of that back with me," said Oswald.

This camp was all about testing each players strength and conditioning. Oswald, who was coming of a busy week of hockey at the national championship in Morden, which saw her post a 1.21 GAA and a .964 Save% after stopping 216 of the 228 shots she faced during the tournament, explained it was a good test for her.

"My body was a little bit worn down after all of those games, but probably the beep test was the hardest for me. My legs didn't really get a chance to get ready for that," said Oswald.

Oswald stated she learned a lot with how to prepare herself and her body in order to get the most out of her body. She noted she learned techniques on how to condition properly and a lot about nutrition from the presentations at the camp.

"You want to take all of that information back and put it good use," explained the 5'7'' goaltender. "It was a great experience to be there and get to be with all of those great people and learn so much there."

This past weekend it was another busy time for Oswald as she was one of four goaltenders left competing for the starting role on the U-18 Hockey Manitoba team. She partook in the Top-40 camp. This camp consisted of practices, goalie sessions, skills testing, and a few games against the other twenty players looking for a spot on the team. The four-day camp was held Thursday, May 11th to Sunday, May 14th in Portage.

"It went great. The players in Manitoba are looking pretty good and I'm really excited about it," explained Oswald.

Also taking part in the camp were a pair of her teammates from this past season in Makenzie McCallum and Sage McElroy-Scott. McElroy-Scott was on her team during the four days, but McCallum who had a great offensive performance at the Esso Cup was on the other, which provided a chance to have bragging rights.

"There was a friendly competition like and with her coming off with so many points at Esso. I had to put that to rest," laughed Oswald.

There's still a pair of cut-down dates left in order to make Team Manitoba. The Top 27 will be announced the coming weeks and they'll solidify the team from there.

As for when Oswald has completed her Hawks career she'll be off to play for the University of Alberta Panda's hockey team, who recently won the U-Sport National Championship this spring.
