The Winkler Flyers seven game winning streak came to an end with a tough 3-2 loss in OCN, in the second of two straight road games against the Blizzard. Despite outshooting the Blizzard 51-38 in game two, the Flyers were forced to settle for a weekend split up north.

A night after getting past OCN 2-1, the Flyers looked poised to take both games of their weekend series thanks to a good start in the first period. Much like Friday night’s game, the Flyers played well to start but failed to open the scoring.

The Blizzard scored first on a deflected power-play shot, 8:40 into the second period and took a 1-0 lead for the second straight game. Winkler rebounded with a goal of their own a few minutes later when Jacob Lacasse banked a shot off of goaltender Emilien Boily and in, tying the game 1-1. Brody Moffatt and Brett Opperman drew the assists.

Moments later, Lacasse’s second goal of the game put Winkler in front 2-1 as the second year Flyer redirected a shot on the power-play and the Flyers had their first lead of the night. Brady Pupp and Garrett Kuklica assisted on Lacasse’s fifth of the season.

That lead was short lived though, as the Blizzard pulled even not even a minute later and the game went tied 2-2 into the second intermission.

The Flyers poured it on in the third period, outshooting OCN 22-12 in the frame but failed to beat Boily the rest of the way. Brayden Dale scored the game winner for the Blizzard with 8:39 left in regulation and the home team would hang on at the end for the 3-2 victory.

Troy Martyniuk took the loss for Winkler, making 35 saves. Winkler outshot OCN 51-38 overall. Winkler was 1-for-6 on the power-play and 3-for-4 on the penalty-kill.

The Flyers (14-4), who are once again tied for first place in the MJHL Standings with Steinbach and OCN will hit the road again on Tuesday for their third meeting of the season against the Steelers. Winkler is 1-1 against Selkirk this year. You can catch the game live on Country 88.9FM and online at www.pembinavalleyonline.com with the pregame show at 7:25pm.
