Nico Nickel scored a pair of goals, none more important than the eventual game winner at the end of the first half, as the Winkler Storm dumped the Kildonan Cavaliers 6-2.

"I was looking for that ball a couple of times and eventually he saw me coming in. I was so lucky to get that run in and it was a nice finish," said Nickel.

"That was a huge advantage for us to go ahead of them after the first half," added Nickel.

With Sunday's win the Storm have three wins, three ties, and three losses during the 2016 Manitoba Major Soccer League's Division 1 season.

Christan Hoffman, Derek Giesbrecht, Jeffrey Dueck, and Stefan Neufeld also tallied for Winkler in the win. While, Cristovao Carvalio and Rob Ivekovic replied for Kildonan.

The Storm jumped out to a 2-nil lead in the first half, but the Cavaliers came back and scored a pair of beautiful goals to tie the game at two. Shortly before the opening half was over Nickel scored his first of two on the night to put the home team up by one.

"We came out strong in the beginning. I know they were a player down. We had some great passing going on, just couldn't finish it. We got three, and then kind of fell back a little bit. I felt like we lost our focus and played to their level," said Storm defence Maik Kort. "In the second half we definitely improved and played together very well. I think we did a really good job in the second half ending up with a 6-2 win."

In the second half Winkler road the momentum from Nickels late first half goal and scored three more times to put the game out of reach for Kildonan.

The Storm will hit the pitch next against the first place Hanover Kickers Sunday in Steinbach at 4:00 p.m.
