He's captured the last three Manitoba 5 Pin Bowlers' Association Men's Singles Championships at the M5PBA Provincial Open in Killarney.

"I was pretty excited, might have shed a few tears," said Morden's Ian Sylvestor. "I was pretty happy to win this championship this year. I wanted to try and get back to the national event, and improve on my silver medal there last year."

Sylvester is the first person to accomplish this feat in the 55-year history of the tournament.

"Some of the mental game. Bowling to me is a lot of a mental sport, more so than being accurate all the time," said Sylvester when asked why he's been so successful. "You need to get past that stress when you need to throw that shot. To be in that situation, you really need a good mental side of your game I think."

Up next for Sylvester is a return to the 2017 Canadian Championships in Sudbury, Ontario at the end of the month, which he previously captured a silver medal at last year.

"There will be a lot of practice going into this beforehand. I've played in another national in previous years in Sudbury, so I do know the lanes a little bit. I hope I can bowl well those three qualifying days, and finish really high up," said Sylvester, who is looking for nothing less than coming home with a gold medal this year.
