UPDATE: RCMP has confirmed that Monday's car crash north of Altona was a fatal incident.

Emergency crews, including STARS Air Ambulance, were called to the scene on Highway 30, 1 kilometre north of town, around 4:45 PM.

Investigators have since determined that a car, driven by a 21-year-old male from Winkler, was leaving a rural driveway and turning on to the highway when he was struck on the driver's side by a northbound minivan. The driver of the car was pronounced deceased on scene.

The 35-year-old female driver of the minivan suffered minor injuries.

RCMP say drugs, alcohol and speed are not suspected to have contributed to the collision.

Morden RCMP, along with a forensic collision reconstructionist, continues to investigate.
