Upcoming renovations will cause the South Central Regional Library in Altona to close for almost two weeks.

The closure will begin Friday at noon and will stretch until June 26.

The tile flooring will be replaced to improve safety and reduce the amount of waxing that is required, ultimately lowering the cost of maintenance care, according to branch librarian Rachael Friesen.

A new desk will also be installed to enhance the functionality of the space. With the current work area there is only one entrance staff can use to move between the front and back of the reception area, which becomes a hassle, Friesen said.

“The desk has been designed so that it’s going to flow better with us as staff,” she said. “It’s actually going to be much easier for us to help patrons and to do our jobs, so that’s fantastic, we’re really excited.”

Book returns will be affected by this closure. Friesen encourages borrowers to return their books before the closure begins. However if they are not able to, they do not need to worry because all returns scheduled during the time of the closure will be backdated.
