Organizers are gearing up for the 14th annual Camp Bridges weekend May 24-26 at Camp Wannakumbac in Clear Lake.

Melissa Peters is the Palliative Care Coordinator for Prairie Mountain Health which hosts the annual getaway with Southern Health-Santé Sud

She says the weekend is open to all children ages 7 to 15 in Manitoba who are grieving the death of someone important in their lives.

"We want to be able to provide a safe environment where they have the opportunity to interact and share how they feel and see other children in similar circumstances so they don't feel alone in their grief. Basically recognizing the feelings are normal," explained Peters. "It's not a grief therapy camp. It's just to acknowledge loss and grief and honour memories and of course, having fun with the regular camp activities that are available."

There is room for 50 campers and Peters added the weekend is free of charge.

Camper/volunteer application forms can be found online. Deadline for submissions is May 1st, 2019.
