This winter, Agassiz Medical Centre (AMC) in Morden announced a 2,400 square foot expansion of their facilities.

According to the centre's Community Board of Directors, many areas in the clinic are too small or don't function efficiently with the number of patients and staff at the clinic.

With 15,000 patients who consider AMC their regular source of care, an average of over 4,000 appointments every month, and 1,600 people on a waiting list, the expansion, and additional practitioners are dearly needed.

Myrna MayorMyrna Mayor is the Community Representative on the board. She says the goal of the board is to support and enhance the health care of the community by providing the furnishings and equipment for the clinic.

Mayor has been involved with AMC for many years, driven by a burning passion for her community.

"I care about health care and what we can do for people. It's great to work with the doctors and the staff in the clinic as the years have gone by."

The Clinic Development Project doesn't come cheap, estimated at $1.2 million; to kick-start the project, Mayor says the board has committed to raising $500,000.

The project will not be receiving government funding but has gotten support from the city of Morden, R. M. of Stanley, and the physicians.

To make this project a reality, Mayor says they need assistance from the community; she notes any funds raised go directly towards the clinic.

"Any funding that comes in, any money that comes through the community board does not flow through the physicians at any time. It's always for the furnishings or equipment that's needed for the doctors."

Currently, the board doesn't have any fundraisers on the books however, Mayor says board member Bob Wahl has been working diligently, approaching businesses to let them know what is needed to get the development project moving, and sharing that investing in this project is an investment in the community.
