The Manitoba government is hoping to introduce a new budget on Monday after Manitoba's Opposition New Democrats blocked the release of the provincial budget two days in a row this past week.

The government says its new fiscal plan won't be tabled in the legislature until at least Monday.

Justice Minister Cliff Cullen calls it a frustrating time and he hopes the legislature can back to normal this coming week.

“I think many Manitobans are frustrated as well because we’d like to bring forward our provincial budget. The budget contains a lot of good news for Manitobans and we’d like to share that news. We were also elected to bring in our legislative agenda as well. We have a lot of legislation we’d like to bring forward and get introduced into the house and the opposition is stalling us.”

N-D-P Leader Wab Kinew says they are trying to prevent the government from introducing about 20 bills before Tuesday, the deadline to table bills in order to have them passed into law before
the summer break.

“Once we introduce legislation into the house that is the first time for Manitobans and the oppositions to see what it’s all about. Quite frankly they are even stalling us from introducing the legislation and it’s certainly frustrating.”

MLA’s are back in the legislature Monday and Cliff Cullen expects to see even more delay tactics utilized by the opposition. He says the NDP members are operating within the rules but it is frustrating and unprecedented to see a budget stalled from being introduced into the house.
