A 20-year-old man was arrested earlier this month after fleeing Winkler police on his dirt bike.

On March 18, police observed the driver of a dirt bike 'one-wheeling' on Pembina Ave. When police attempted to conduct a traffic stop the man fled at a high rate of speed.

While police initially followed the dirt bike through the city, the pursuit was called off due to safety concerns. However, police later located the driver a short distance outside of Winkler and arrested him for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and flight from a police officer.

The male was transported to the Winkler Police Service and later released on a promise to appear, along with an appearance notice for driving an off-road vehicle while disqualified, operating an unregistered off-road vehicle and operating an off-road vehicle on or across a roadway or shoulder. The male was also served a serious offence notice, and his dirt bike was impounded at the scene.
