Shooting began on Tales from the Loop this week in Morden.

The series stars Golden Globe nominee Rebecca Hall who's starred in films such as The Prestige, Frost/Nixon, Iron Man 3 and Ben Affleck's The Town.

The eight episode series is being produced by Fox 21 Television for Amazon Prime Video. The story is inspired by the work of Swedish artist Simon Stålenhag whose futuristic paintings "blend elements of science fiction with dramatic images of rural life and forest landscapes," Location Manager Bernie Narvey explains.

He notes a significant amount of scouting was done throughout southern Manitoba for the primary locations which will include Birds Hill Provincial Park, downtown Morden, and a variety other locations in and around Winnipeg.

"Downtown Morden, especially in the vicinity of the historic Arts Centre building provided us with a timeless character backdrop for the rural town and community where the story is set. I think this is the first time a dramatic series or film has shot in Morden," he says.

Business owners and residents have been seeing a steadily increasing amount of activity as crews have been planning, designing, building, and installing temporary facades to create the look of a town in the 1950's and 80's where a number of stories occur, Narvey explains.

"We hope the residents and merchants have a positive experience and enjoying watching all of the activity," Narvey says. "We ask that everyone stay outside the closed area, but feel free to watch quietly from the sides."

Except for a few locations the production crew is renting for filming, all businesses and services will be open during filming though customers will sometimes be asked to wait for a few minutes during actual filming.
