The Winkler Fire Department responded to a fire at Flax Farm, a flax bedding factory in Winkler Wednesday evening.

Fire crews were dispatched to the call on Monarch Drive at 8:25pm.

Fire Chief Richard Paetzold said a blower motor belt caught fire, and in the end, damage was minimal.

The Winkler Fire department was also called to a fire at a seed processing plant in the morning, Wednesday.

Paetzold noted, in both cases, employees kept the fire from getting out of hand with the use of fire extinguishers until crews arrived.  He said having operating fire extinguishes on site, proved instrumental in the damage being kept to a minimum in both situations.
