In a generous accounting miracle, $5 will be turned into $15 in Winkler November 17.

The City of Winkler is one of ten organizations that has stepped up to provide matching dollars for all funds donated to the Winkler Community Foundation for the 24 Hour Giving Challenge November 17. The city joins the Winnipeg Community Foundation, the Province of Manitoba, Access Credit Union, Triple E, Goldenwest Radio, Kroeker Farms, Protec Plumbing & Heating, Winkler Concrete and Southern Potato.

"Your money is stretching that much further and you're going to have a lasting impact on our community because each gift gives back as it's endowed and the interest earned is granted back to charities," Winkler Community Foundation Chair Myra Peters explains. "It makes an impact year after year."

Peters says each year they receive more granting requests, "so it's important to see this fund grow... they're great projects and we're just not able to meet all the needs."

Earlier this year, the foundation handed out over $59,000 in grants, however, they received 24 applications totalling over $300,000 in requested funding.

She notes they hope to grow their community fund to $550,000. With the matching funds in place, the foundation needs to raise $5,000 November 17 to meet that goal.
