Members of the Curtis Klassen Memorial Fund were pleased to recently distribute funds to the Rec. Hockey program in Gretna, under the banner of Gretna Stars Recreational Hockey.

The $750 cheque was used to purchase new jerseys.

The goal of the Rec. Hockey program is to provide a place for kids to learn the skills of hockey without the commitment (both time & financial) that is needed to play more competitive hockey.

Curtis Klassen Memorial Fund committee member, Eric Hildebrand, explained that funds are distributed annually throughout Altona and surrounding communities in three different areas; Education (Scholarships for graduating W.C. Miller Collegiate students), Sports (Grassroots sports such as Minor Hockey, Minor Baseball etc.) and Community (Big Brothers, Big Sisters & local area school breakfast clubs).

Meantime, Hildebrand noted that the 2018 5K/10K Run and Walk to Remember is coming up soon on Saturday, May 26th in the Altona Park. He pointed out that the annual event is a major source of incoming funds for the CK committee to operate with.

The 2017 Run and Walk to Remember brought in just over $11,000 in race fees and general donations and the committee hopes to meet or exceed the goal of $11,000 and to continue to raise the number of participants.
