One lucky Manitou resident took home nearly $27,000 this weekend after winning the Manitou Community Chase the Ace.

Dale Seymour says the moment he picked the ace was shocking, "it didn't really sink in at first."

He notes they've been following the fundraiser for the past three years, adding they've long supported the recreation and arts in Manitou. "We do what we can to support them."

Proceeds from the fundraiser are spread equally between the Manitou Community Curling Rink, Arena, Swimming Pool, Golf Course, Opera House and the Nellie McClung Heritage Homes. Each received approximately $4,500. While winning was exciting, Seymour says it's almost unfortunate the event didn't run a few more weeks to raise more funds for the community.

He adds the windfall will help pay off some bills and upgrade their camper ahead of the summer.

Last month the Winkler Arts and Culture Chase the Ace fundraiser found a winner as well.
