This weekend could be the last time Manitobans spring ahead with Daylight Saving Time if Cliff Graydon gets his way.

The Emerson MLA remains hopeful his private member's bill to nix DST will be approved in time to take effect this November when we return to Standard Time.

Graydon says the bill has passed first reading in the Legislature is waiting to be read a second time.

"It's on the order paper and hopefully I can get it passed the second reading, that's going to be the challenge."

If the proposal moves past this point, it will move to committee for discussion and public consultation before heading back to the House for a third and final vote.

"Hopefully the (Progressive) Conservative government will allow democracy to move forward," noted the Independent MLA.

According to Graydon, support for the bill remains strong with about 70% of responses coming into his office in favour of the move.

"I did mailer to the riding and we're getting a good response to that and people are filling it out online," he said. "We've also got people...that have phoned and said 'We support you'. "

Now, Graydon has sent a pamphlet to about 30,000 people in Winnipeg urging them to voice their opinions on the proposal.
