Morden police are investigating an incident of a male requesting explicit photos of a female youth.

Police say on October 16 the individuals were speaking over Facebook and Snapchat when the female was asked to send explicit photos of herself over social media.

Morden Police Chief Brad Neduzak says youth always need to think twice before sending explicit pictures online.

"You never know where it will end up, it's something you can't take back."

He notes it's especially important when you don't know the intended receiver.

When those involved are under the age of 18, the law becomes involved.

RCMP Constable Gord Olson with the Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) in Winnipeg spoke to Morden Collegiate earlier this Spring.

He shared on the dangers of misusing the internet and social media, the implications of online bullying and the sharing of intimate pictures. At that time, he reminded students it's illegal to have a picture of a naked child under the age of eighteen.

"It's hard for us to understand why anyone would send photographs like that out," Neduzak says. "It can be very detrimental... normally it's not used for good intent."

Neduzak says, unfortunately, they've dealt with similar issues in the past.
