With the help of a nearby motorist, Morden Police was able to keep its residents safe and remove drugs from the street.

On September 30th a motorist observed a vehicle driving erratically west into Morden on Thornhill Street. The citizen alerted police who were able to locate the vehicle and followed it as it continued to swerve into the outside lane almost striking the curb multiple times before officers stopped the vehicle.

"The driver seemed very nervous and was jittery," said Chief of Police Brad Neduzak. "His arms and head were twitching. He appeared to be under the influence of some substance."

After the driver failed a Field Sobriety Test his licence was suspended.

Officers also observed a baggie with a white powdery substance on the driver's seat, at which time the driver was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.

A subsequent search of the vehicle turned up other items in the vehicle such as shatter and a quantity of cash.

As a result, 31-year-old Darrin Michael Bergen of Morden was also charged with possessing a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and possessing property obtained by crime.

He was remanded into custody and transported to the Winnipeg Remand Centre and appeared in Portage Provincial Court Monday.
