The Morden District Chamber of Commerce (MDCC) held a small lunch meeting Thursday afternoon at Homestead South in Morden to discuss how small business owners in the area can ensure they are meeting all health and safety regulations.

This "Lunch & Learn" workshop is the most recent event in the MDCC's plan to provide similar learning opportunities to business owners in the area.

"We had a great session learning the basics about workplace safety and health, and opening up a discussion about what employers need to have in place to protect employees," said Candace Olafson, executive director of MDCC.

Michelle Sawatzky and Ron Funk, MDCC board members, spoke to the audience of around 20 and shared their knowledge, pointing people toward resources they can use.

"We're always trying to think of topics that might be beneficial to our members," said Olafson. "Seeing different people in the room is always great, knowing that we've provided them with some more knowledge to help them in their business."

Olafson said the speakers received a lot of questions from the audience which showed her the topic of safety was a strong choice.

"I'm positive that everyone walked away with something they're going to take with them to implement in their business," she said.
