Drivers can expect delays on PTH 32 through Winkler this summer as the area is transformed into a construction zone.

Residents are asked to keep a close eye out for equipment and construction workers, and follow all signs and flag staff. Traffic is expected to go down to a single lane at times. The vehicle width limit in effect is 3.7 meters, and the speed limit remains at 50 km/h. There are also no left turns allowed between Victoria St. and Norquay Dr.

Morden-Winkler MLA Cameron Friesen explains the Manitoba Government is working with the City of Winkler and contractor Nelson River Construction to help maintain access to businesses in the area.

He notes construction of the northbound lanes is planned first starting at the south limit of the project. North-south through-traffic will have the option to reroute to Eastview Drive, but PTH 32 will remain open for access to businesses.

"The goal of the current construction is to prioritize access to your site for your customers and employees," he says, adding it's likely that some disruption will occur.

"But I have been advised by the Department of Manitoba Infrastructure that tremendous care is being taken to not negatively impact businesses on the corridor," Friesen says. "For example, the preliminary construction plans proposed a block-by-block approach, but the current plan is for continuous work that would not result in the temporary closing and loss of access of portions of the construction route."

Friesen notes local businesses that have questions are invited to contact his office at info@cameronfriesen.ca.

Twinning work is expected to continue from Victoria St. to PTH 14 until October 31, 2020.
