Winkler Police report a husband and wife are facing charges following an incident which began with a traffic stop, and ended at the family's residence in Winkler.

According to the report, a joint investigation evolved shortly before 8:00 p.m. when Winkler Police officers received a call for assistance from RCMP officers who advised they had a vehicle stopped at Provincial Highway #14 near 15th Street in Winkler, and that the occupant was possibly in possession of a firearm.

The situation changed when the suspect vehicle fled from the roadside scene and traveled to a residence on Roadrunner Bay where the occupant fled on foot into his house.

Members of the Winkler Police Service joined the RCMP at the residence where attempts were made to call the suspect out of the house. Morden Police as well as the Regional Support Tactical Team were also called to assist.

The suspect eventually exited the house and fled on foot. Several officers pursued and apprehended him a short distance away. The suspect was taken into custody by the RCMP.

An adult female then exited the family home with a young child. A search of the child’s backpack was found to contain a number of toys along with small quantities of methamphetamine and marijuana. The woman was taken into custody by Winkler Police officers.

Several firearms were subsequently located and seized from the house and vehicle with the RCMP conducting further investigation in that regard.

Winkler Police later released the woman on a Promise to Appear, along with an Undertaking, to face possession charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
