The City of Winkler is on track for another record-breaking year for construction.

Taking into account last year's $24 million school construction, building permits are up overall at nearly $18 million over last year's $15 million by the end of May.

"Last year was an abnormal year... but we're once again going to be beating records from previous years in building permits," Winkler Mayor Martin Harder says. "It's exciting to be part of a growing community."

So far this year, Winkler has seen 27 new single-family homes and six multi-family dwellings.

Looking across the region, Morden sits at just over $7 million in construction compared to $7.8 last year, and eight new single-family homes and two new multi-family builds.

The RM of Stanley is down to $6 million compared to $7 million in construction at this time last year. The RM also saw 13 new single-family dwellings.
