Winkler's NHL veterans Eric Fehr and Justin Falk recently donated $60,000 to two local charities.

Both Central Station Community Centre and neighbouring Winkler and District Food Cupboard received $30,000 each, the results of last month's Winkler Champions Charity Golf Tournament.

"It was a very successful day, we surpassed all expectations," Falk says. "We're very happy to be able to present these cheques to two very important non-profits in the community."

"But if it wasn't for everyone who supported us during the tournament, none of this would've been possible," he adds.

"We're grateful they see the need in the community and they want to be a part of something that's organic, hands-on and local," Central Station Executive Director Bev Wiebe says.

Central Station provides a number of programs covering everything from immediate physical needs to individual development, cooking classes, and public drop-in times. They also provide a free community meal every Monday out of their 545 Industrial Dr. location. The Winkler Food Cupboard moved into the facility in 2017.

"There's a lot of work that goes into these places and a lot of it is volunteer hours," Fehr adds. "So it's nice to give them support to expand their programs... whatever the city needs. They're here to help everyone in the community and we want to be a part of that."

The event took place June 21

Fehr and Falk have created the Falk Fehr Foundation, partnering with the Winkler Community Foundation to continue to give back to local charities through the annual golf fundraiser. Fehr says it's part of giving back and leaving a legacy.

"It's always nice to come back, we're gone a majority of the year but we receive support from this city throughout the whole season," he says.

Fehr notes they're already thinking of expanding on the golf tournament and finding new creative ways to support Winkler through the Falk Fehr Foundation.
