Save the date! Altona's Blue Sky Opportunities is looking forward to hosting you November 9th at the Rhineland Pioneer Centre for its annual fundraising dinner. The evening will also serve as the campaign kick-off for Blue Sky's latest fundraising project.

Blue Sky Opportunities Inc. is a non-profit organization committed to the integration and independence of adults with intellectual disabilities by maximizing employment and residential opportunities in our community.

"We're fundraising for a new, fully accessible vehicle, and that costs about $150,000, and then we're hoping to start some more runs to help clients from Morris, and other areas, be transported," explained Executive Director Ryan Potter. "We're definitely hoping we can make that happen."

Blue Sky Opportunities currently operates eight homes in Altona supporting adults with intellectual disabilities. The supports in each home vary to meet the specific need of each person, with the goal of each person achieving their highest level of independence possible in all aspects of life. Supports are also available for people living in their own home within the community through the Supported Independent Living program. The organization also operates a day-service program, wood-working department, and all recycling for the Town of Altona.

Potter joined Blue Sky in Spring 2022, and has really enjoyed the work.

"It's a great job," he shared. "You definitely feel rewarded at the end of the day. Helping others achieve their goals, improving their self-confidence, and addressing any internal struggles that might be holding them back.

"Tickets are only $35," noted Potter. "We have a live band. It'll be The Pylons, a local band. We also have Kevin Funk as our caterer for the evening, so it'll be a good time just to come out and and help support Blue Sky."

Advance tickets are available now, and can be purchased at the Blue Sky Opportunities main office at 122 10th Avenue NW, or at BSI Insurance in the Altona Mall. Tickets can also be purchased by calling 204-324-5401, or emailing admin@blueskyop.com . The deadline to purchase tickets is the end of October.
