Daniel Heather has lived in Carman for about three years and recently went viral on a Canadian company's social media for being a 'snow angel' or someone who clears people's yards of snow who can't do it themselves.

"A snow angel is basically about helping other people really. The way I look at life is if fifty percent of the world did a good deed every day, the whole world would be happy every day. That’s only half the people. How easy can that be?"

Heather originally came across the idea when he travelled as a child and happened to come across a sign in Alberta.

"There was a sign that said 'snow angel,' and I read it, and it was about helping your neighbours, and I took it to heart. It's so true if you just do one little thing for your neighbour and know your neighbour, your community is going to be safe. Everyone is going to be happy."

He says clearing snow for the elderly and those who can't make him feel good about himself, but it also brings joy to people who need help to get out of their homes on cold and snowy days.

As well, it wouldn't be possible without the community support and calls for his help.

"Community is everything to me, and that's what keeps me alive here. I don't actually work full-time . . . That's why I feel good about giving back to the people of Carman as well. The people provide me with little side jobs to do and support me that way, and it’s a great thing."

Heather notes that merely being able to travel and leave your home in the bitter Manitoba winters is essential to people's lives, and he loves to help with that need.

"It's warming to my heart to help people, and it's nice to see them smile, and I think that's the most important thing, the joy. You've got to share the joy and make your life better."

In response to being recognized on a major Canadian company’s social media, he says, "I'm a little taken aback, to be honest with you, because it's just having a genuine heart and love for my community that drives me to do these things . . . I didn't expect this at all."
