Buck Pierce has been named the Winnipeg Blue Bombers starting quarterback

 

 

It's cutdown day for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The Canadian Football League team must get down to a 46-player active roster by 2 p.m. today. Fifteen players were let go on Wednesday including defensive linemen L.D. Scott and Remond Willis, linebackers Nick Kordic, Thaine Carter, Merrill Johnson and Bernard Hicks, defensive backs Donald Brown Jr. and Jerry-Ralph Jules, offensive lineman Chris Kowalczuk, wide receivers Jamayel Smith, Chris Davis, Scott McHenry and Willie Foster, running back Emmanuel Marc and quarterback Adam DiMichele. Winnipeg now has 52 players in camp. The Blue Bombers seven-member practice squad will be announced on Friday. Head coach Paul LaPolice has named Buck Pierce his starting quarterback. Steven Jyles will be Pierce's backup and Alex Brink will be the third string quarterback when the Bombers open the 2010 CFL season at home on July 2nd against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
