This week Ronny Guenther sat down with Denise Tonna, the guidance counselor at W.C. Miller Collegiate to talk about the stress and anxiety students can feel during exam time. We first asked Denise for some tips to help students properly prepare for exams.

They also talked about parents putting too much pressure on their children, Denise had this to say, "It really increases the test anxiety in the students, I think that there are a lot of students who put enough pressure on themselves. Athough we want our kids to do well, and we want them to know we want them to do well, it's good to encourage them to relax and take breaks."

She also mentioned it was good to remember the difference between pressure and encouragement.

Around exam time parents may notice that their kids are more anxious overall, she shared some tips about how parents can help manage that anxiety.

Denise then stressed that if you are experiencing an extra load of stress or anxiety it is ALWAYS okay to see your guidance counselor about it!
