Fire fighters with Altona/Rhineland Emergency Services were able to save a barn from being totally destroyed by fire Thursday evening in Rosengart. Crews were also able to save four lambs, however Fire Chief Greg Zimmerman noted two adult sheep were lost in the blaze.

Fire fighters remained on scene for just over three hours, noted Zimmerman. The department responded with four trucks - two pumpers, a water tanker and a rescue unit. Members of the Winkler Fire Department provided mutual aid, offering up two additional water tankers, but Zimmerman said they were required after all.

It appears, added Zimmerman, that the blaze was started by an overturned heat lamp in the barn.
