"I couldn't be more thrilled." That from Cameron Friesen, the MLA for Morden-Winkler, following Heather Stefanson's historic win in Saturday's PC Leadership vote.

nitoba, the right person for the job at this time," said Friesen.

Stefanson defeated former Member of Parliament, Shelly Glover, in Saturday's contest, winning by a margin of less than 400 votes. On Monday, Glover announced she is challenging the results, and called for Stefanson's swearing-in to be delayed. Glover has asked lawyer Dave Hill to represent her as she challenges the results. Last week Glover raised concerns about ballots in the PC leadership election, saying many party members had not received a mail-in ballot.

Stefanson is scheduled to be sworn in as Manitoba's 23rd premier today (November 2nd) at 2 p.m.

Friesen says Manitoba's Progressive Conservatives need to accept Saturday's leadership vote, saying he believes now is the time for the party to rebuild and focus on moving Manitobans forward.

"I find myself reflecting on something that former Premier Gary Filmon once famously said when he won a minority decision, He went to the microphone and he said, 'A win, is a win, is a win'," explained Friesen. "I think that this has been a very substantive process for our party. You had two leadership candidates who went out there and hustled and worked very hard. Over sixty-seven per cent of ballots were returned...I believe the people have spoken. I believe now is the time the party needs to come together."

Closer to home, Friesen noted he knows Stefanson, having served with her in Manitoba's Legislature for the past decade.

"I've seen her tackle the most difficult roles. I've seen her lead with grace and intelligence. She forms good teams, she is down to earth, she is practical. She knows Southern Manitoba and rural Manitoba," added Friesen. "I can't think of a better person to lead Manitoba at this time."
