Winkler native Byron Froese is enjoying his off-season after a record year with the WHL's Everett Silvertips. After going in the fourth round to the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft last June, the former Pembina Valley Hawk recorded 61 points (29 goals, 32 assists) in 70 regular season games.

The Silvertips forward was also an impressive plus 22 on the year. He also had three goals and two assists in Everett's seven game first round WHL playoff loss to the Kelowna Rockets.

In addition to a solid season in Everett, the 19 year old was also a member of team WHL who took on the Russian Selects in an exhibition game last winter. Froese says he is getting ready for Silvertips summer camp and would like to get to the NHL as soon as possible. However, he does know there is still a lot of work to do before then.
