The Winnipeg Goldeyes (10-8) fell 12-3 to the Kansas City T-Bones (12-5) Monday night before 5,055 fans at Canwest Park.


It was a tight game for much of the night, but was blown wide open in the top of the eighth inning with Kansas City leading 4-2. T-Bones left fielder Brian Joynt stepped up and smacked a grand slam home run into the Winnipeg night off Goldeyes starting pitcher Ace Walker to make it 8-2.


Kansas City tacked on four more runs in the ninth inning.


In the fifth inning, Juan Diaz brought the Goldeyes to within two runs with a solo home run. It was his team-leading sixth homer of the season.


Ryan Knippschild improved to a perfect 3-0 with the win for the T-Bones. Eric Hamren pitched the last three innings for KC to get the save.


Walker gets hit with his first loss of the season. He went seven innings, striking out four and allowing eight runs on 10 hits.


The Goldeyes and T-Bones meet again Tuesday night in Game 2 of this four-game series. Game time is 7 p.m.
