This week's heavy wet snowfall did not deter Morden Christmas Cheer from wrapping up another season by delivering hundreds of Christmas hampers throughout the community.

A volunteer with Christmas Cheer for the past fifteen years, chairperson Carolyn Schellenberg says she's always enjoyed being involved in the community.

Every year since COVID they've had to revamp everything, said Schellenberg, and 2022 was no different. Aside from a few frustrations, things worked out very well in the end.

"We haven't raised as much [money] as we have in past years. I think there's a need throughout the community for other things, and we haven't found the community to be as able to give this year as in past years."

Applications in 2022 were similar to the number they received last year.

"We have 305 recipients this year, applications. We haven't been taking any late ones because we have to put a limit on it. We got a number in the last couple of weeks which we weren't expecting. But we had room for them so it was good we could accommodate them."

Last year they were unable to get out toys to everyone, notes Schellenberg. But this year they made a point of providing toys for all the children.
