Hundreds of students in Morden and Winkler showed their support for Special Olympics at the Law Enforcement Torch Run Tuesday morning.

Events took place in both Morden and Winkler to mark Special Olympics Week in Manitoba.

Morden Police Service's Constable Scott Edwards helped organize the annual runs in both communities.

"It's our flagship event," Edwards says, adding it's part of a global movement.

"It's not about raising money, it's about the awareness, we ran right down main street so hopefully a lot of people saw us getting the word out about what we do."

Involving youth also sparks interest in volunteering with Special Olympics, Edwards explains. "It's a great opportunity, I know I did it when I was younger and have a lot of fond memories."
