Through Peak of the Market's Farm to School fundraiser, the Kiddie Sunshine Centre in Altona will donate 600 pounds, or 40 bundles, of fresh produce to the Rhineland and Area Food Bank.

Parents of children at the daycare bought bundles of vegetables and had the option to donate to the food bank as well.

"Not everybody has their own garden, so this was a way for people to get fresh produce, not necessarily canned all the time," said Patricia Klassen, director of the centre.

She said this fundraiser served as a valuable lesson to children at the daycare.

"We have this giant pile of vegetables still in our building, of course, they're curious to know what this is. We're obviously not going to eat that all for a snack. So we just talked about how we've raised money, or these veggies, to donate to people that need it."
