The Winkler Police Service had a routine stop turn into a pursuit Saturday afternoon.

Officers tried to stop the vehicle because the occupants were not wearing seat belts.

The vehicle fled down Highway 14 at excessive speeds.

Altona and Morden Police were called for backup.

The vehicle in pursuit turned onto an embankment beside the railway tracks near Rosenfeld.

At the end of the chase the vehicle struck a concrete abutment and two passengers surrendered.

The driver fled and was apprehended on foot.

They were charged with various driving offences, breach of probation, possession of stolen goods, and fleeing a police officer.

Two men were taken to the Winnipeg Remand Centre and one was released with a court date.
