A handful of students from the Red River Technical Vocational Area (RRTVA) participated in the Skills Manitoba 2023 competition held at a number of sites April 13th. Over 475 high school, post secondary and apprentice students competed in 42 skilled trades and technology contests in six industry sectors.

Winners of the respective provincial competitions may form Team Manitoba, and compete against their peers at the Skills Canada National Competition happening in Winnipeg May 24th through 27th.
    
Riley Banman, from Altona's W.C. Miller Collegiate, earned silver in the provincial Carpentry competition. The RRTVA's Carpentry program is located at W.C. Miller Collegiate in Altona.
    
Earning bronze were Garden Valley Collegiate's David Sterkel in the Electrical Installations category, with his training coming at Northlands Parkway Collegiate in Winkler through the Electrical Technology program. Nathan Dueck earned a bronze medal, as well, in the Transportation 33 category.

Alyssa Wall, an Esthetics student from Garden Valley Collegiate in Winkler, and attending the Esthetics program at Northlands Parkway Collegiate, is advancing directly to the national competition after the provincial event for that category didn't happen. 

Kiera Martens, a Baking student from Garden Valley Collegiate, who is participating in the Baking and Pastry Arts program at Northlands Parkway Collegiate, participated in the Skills Manitoba event, but did not place.
