A new lighted crosswalk is up and running at the entrance to Altona's Centennial Park. Crossing 10th Ave NW, the crosswalk links Millennium Drive on the north side to the park's pathway system to the south.

"This crosswalk is being added on recommendation of our accessibility committee, Equal Access Altona, who did an accessibility review of the area earlier this year," explained Mayor Harv Schroeder. "With increased residential development north of Tenth (Avenue), there has been an increase in vehicle and non-vehicle traffic in the area and adding this controlled crossing with improve safety and accessibility for residents and be a natural connection point in the trail network."

The intent of the crosswalk is to also keep pedestrian and cyclist traffic on the path and out of the park's vehicle loop, further enhancing safety at the main entrance.

The new crosswalk was part of the latest In the Mayor's Chair with Harv Schroeder and CFAM Radio 950 Morning Show Co-Host Chris Sumner. You can listen to the entire conversation below.
