Winkler Police Service are responding to rumours of a serious threat made towards a local business.

On August 6, police received a report of a threat made by an adult male to commit acts of violence at a Winkler store. Officers immediately arrested the suspect and conducted a thorough investigation into the threatening comments.

Police say they did not find any evidence the suspect had access to weapons, nor plans to commit any acts of violence.

The 36-year-old Winkler male was released on a promise to appear in Morden Provincial Court September 10 to face a charge of uttering threats.

Police request the public refrain from sharing potentially false or inaccurate posts on social media.

“At this time, the Winkler Police Service can confirm that we are not aware of any imminent threat in relation to this matter,” officials said in a release.
