Meanwhile, CMOS Accredited Weathercaster Chris Sumner says it will be the tale of two Long Weekends in the coming days with a warm start and well below average finish come Labour Day.

"Saturday, by far, will be the best day of the weekend," explains Sumner. "Lots of sunshine and highs slightly above average for this time of year. We’re expecting to reach 25 to 27, so it will be the opportunity to get the most out of the Long weekend."

A low crossing the Prairies will move through Saturday night into Sunday, and its cold front will drop temperatures back to seasonal or slightly below.

"Sunday we’re expecting a partly sunny day with highs between 20 and 22, and then the bottom falls out as we get to Labour Day Monday," says Sumner with a smile. "A trough will develop in the Jet Stream, and will establish itself over the Eastern Prairies, Ontario and parts of Quebec, and a bitterly cold air-mass that originated in Siberia will slide into our region setting up an extended stretch of well below average weather for this time of year."

Monday, across the province, will see temperatures struggle to reach the 13 to 15 range. Average highs for Labour Day weekend are 20 to 22.

"The well below average weather is expected to last most, if not all, of next week," adds Sumner. "Right now the long range models are indicating it could be mid-month before we see a consistent return to seasonal daytime highs."
