A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for the Pembina Valley including the RM of Morris, the RM of Roland and the RM of Thompson.

As of Friday afternoon, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms that have developed from the international border near Snowflake northeast to Landmark. The thunderstorms are moving northeast at 30 km/h and capable of producing strong wind gusts, nickel-size hail, and heavy rain.

Officials remind residents to take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches, noting heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Tornadoes are also a possibility during severe thunderstorms.

Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
