Manitoba champions Randy Neufeld, Dean Moxham, Peter Nicholls and Dale Michie captured bronze at the 2022 Canadian Senior Men’s Curling Championship in Yarmouth. Neufeld jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two ends en route to a 10-7 victory over Glen MacLeod of Nova Scotia. Neufeld lost 4-3 to James Pahl of Alberta in the semifinals. It was the only loss of the week for the Neufeld foursome.


The Carman Beavers and Notre Dame Hawks were winners in the SEMHL Saturday night. Tanner Mole had six goals and three assists as Carman defeated Morden 13-9. Ben Dalke added three goals and three helpers for the Beavers; Fraser Mirlees scored twice while singles went to Quade Froese and AJ Nychuk. Mike Rey had a hat trick for the hometown Bombers; Jory Mullin and Andrew Clark added two goals each and Cole Penner had the other. Griffen McLean scored three times as Notre Dame downed Altona 6-2. Jean Prejet, Kyle Rous and Eli Carels also scored for the Hawks. Adam Henry and Justin Augert replied for the Maroons.


The 2022 World Junior A Hockey Challenge begins today in Cornwall, Ontario. Team Canada West will play its preliminary round opener against the United States. Team Canada East will meet Latvia. Winkler Flyers bench boss Justin Falk is the head coach for Team Canada West and Morden’s Trent Crane of the Summerside Western Capitals is on Team Canada East’s roster.


Nate Danielson and Brett Hyland scored power play goals and Carson Bjarnason made 26 saves as the Brandon Wheat Kings edged the Spokane Chiefs 2-1 at Westoba Place.


Alex Limoges scored the go-ahead goal 7:15 into the third period as the Manitoba Moose shaded the Abbotsford Canucks 2-1. Portage la Prairie’s Dean Stewart drew an assist on Limoges’ seventh of the season. Simon Lundmark also scored for the Moose. Manitoba goaltender Arvid Holm made 17 saves.
